China Power Market Status
October 20, 2005
By 2005, China's power output is expected to grow by 4.8% to top 1.73 trillion kWh, and the installed capacity is anticipated to grow by 3% to reach 370 million kW. For consecutive years, the growth rate in China's installed power generating capacity has been slower than that of power consumption. As a result, China is experiencing a power supply challenge and some regions are suffering from insufficient power. China's power industry is implementing scientific developments and accelerating the construction of power supplies and power grids to meet power supply needs. By 2005, China's additional installed capacity is to reach 65GW. By 2010, China's installed generating capacity is expected to hit 600-700GW. By 2020, China's installed generating capacity is expected to achieve 1000-1100GW.

The continuous growth of China?s economic and industrial development is stimulating a surge in demand for power. It has been projected that the annual power consumption in China in 2020 will have increased by 87% to 4600Twh. In the next 15 years, the annual power consumption rate will reach160TWh.
